"At that time I thought nothing of it, and today my mother's dream came true", Gray wrote in a post following her win."Philippines what an awesome honor it has been to carry your name across my chest and to embody you in all aspects".

Catriona was born in Cairns, Queensland to a Scottish-born Australian father, Ian Gray and a Filipino mother, Normita Ragas Magnayon. "I may now carry the sash of Miss Universe, but I'll forever be your Miss Philippines".

She is a 24-year-old with a Master's in music theory.

Dressed in a red gown, Gray was euphoric as she took her first walk as Miss Universe. "(Is this real? Is this really Tyra?) And then I checked the link she was commenting on and it was my video and I was like oh my god!" She took the 1973 Miss Universe title, alongside the Miss Photogenic title.

The competition began with the Top 20, with five semi-finalists being chosen from each region - The Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific, as well as a Wild Card category.

She is the fourth Filipina to win the competition.

After she was crowned, Gray told reporters the question was "definitely relevant" and "an active topic", in an apparent reference to the war on drugs in the Philippines that has killed thousands of Filipinos and caused worldwide alarm.

Again her poise, gorgeousness and smarts made her pass through the preliminaries and reach the top 5.

"I am a creative person".

"Over the pageant's 67-year history, Bangkok has hosted Miss Universe in 1992 and 2005, with representatives of Thailand also capturing the crown twice in 1965 and 1988", the organization's website reads. Francesca (Miss Australia) said that would be so isolating and I said yes and just confusing all the time. "You all just won't let it go". "There were moments of doubt where I felt overwhelmed and I felt the pressure". "But when you look at it as one step at a time, one day you're gonna look up from your feet and you'll be at your destination", she added. Heart-racing adventures, like zipline, are always game for her.

The spokesman also said that the victory of Gray set the bar high in Filipina empowerment and would push them to hold their place in the world.

Gray is also an advocate of HIV/AIDS at Love Yourself Philippines, and volunteers as a teacher's assistant to students of a non-government organization Young Focus.
