And yet, despite what's at stake, one name has dominated headlines ahead of the London derby: Mesut Ozil.

He was fit and available for last weekend's defeat to West Ham but manager Unai Emery chose to leave him at home - for tactical reasons.

Arsenal are believed to be interested in using the funds procured from Ozil's departure to try and delve into the transfer market in a bid to remain in pursuit of their targets.

Emery said when quizzed on whether Ozil could form part of his plans for a crunch clash with Chelsea on Saturday: "He has injuries, where sometimes he is okay, sometimes not okay".

It's not me who decides the team, making the starting XI, but obviously, every single player wants to play every single game.

"I want every player to give consistency".

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery says he is "not thinking" about Mesut Ozil leaving the club, but wants more consistency from the German midfielder.

"Then after, when I came back late from the World Cup, it was a bit different because the new manager came and you have to start again, prove to him that you are ready to play in this team".

"He has helped us sometimes this year with good performances and others not good".

But Emery said he is still working alongside Mislintat as normal as Arsenal look to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

Both sides are now bidding for a top four spot and a place in next season's Champions League.
