Kamala Harris Announces 2020 Presidential Run

Kamala Harris, the Democratic senator from California, announced Monday her 2020 White House bid, becoming the first Indian-American woman to run for USA presidency and only the second African-American woman to do so.

Before her first term as a USA senator, Harris previously served as California's attorney general and, prior to that, as district attorney of San Francisco. Barbara Boxer in 2016, said in her almost 1-minute announcement video that she wanted to bring people together.

"The future of our country depends on you and millions or others, lifting our voices to fight for our American values", she says.

"I am running for president of the United States", she said.

Vowing to "bring our voices together", Harris would be the first woman to hold the presidency if she succeeds.

Harris, 54, asked viewers to join her for a campaign event in Oakland on Sunday.

Harris, who voted against Mnuchin's confirmation as head of the Treasury, has said she "followed the facts" in declining to prosecute.
