Oscars 2019 Snubs - Who Was Left Off Nominations List?

A Star Is Born is an iteration of the classic musical romance led by the powerhouse duo of actor-director Bradley Cooper and pop diva Lady Gaga

After what feels like a lifetime of waiting, we finally have the 2019 Oscar nominations at our fingertips.

The Oscars have joined the world's spirited "Wakanda forever" refrain, exalting "Black Panther" ― 2018's highest-grossing release ― with the first-ever Best Picture nomination for a superhero movie. The Academy was excoriated for overlooking the superhero genre, and it had to expand the category to include more than five nominees. With that, producer Kevin Feige scored his first nod.

"BlacKkKlansman" earned six Oscar nominations overall. But on the other hand, Spike Lee scored his first Best Picture nomination with BlacKkKlansman. In 1998, his "4 Little Girls" was nominated for documentary feature. The film, which has pocketed $42 million since opening in November, also picked up nominations for original screenplay and editing. One omission was "If Beale Street Could Talk", director Barry Jenkins' first new film since his best picture victor "Moonlight" two years ago. The last Netflix nomination went to "End Game", which is up for best documentary short subject. Then Alfonso Cuarón's masterful Spanish-language black-and-white Netflix drama Roma somewhat dominated the critics awards, scoring Best Picture trophy after Best Picture trophy.

However, after much backlash about representation of women and ethnic minorities over the past few years, there are yet again no women nominated in the best director category - meaning Kathryn Bigelow, who won the award for The Hurt Locker in 2010, will remain the only female victor of the prize for another year at least.

Up for Best Actress are Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Glenn Close (The Wife), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Lady Gaga and Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?).

Ten years ago, another comic book movie seemed poised to land the Best Picture nomination: The Dark Knight.

Authorities also dismiss a tip placing Jayme's whereabouts in Miami as "not credible", and say they believe the girl is in danger. Another of Jayme's aunts, Jennifer Smith, pleaded with those who knew where the girl was to contact the sheriff's department.

In August, the Academy - under fire for being too elitist - announced it would add a "best popular film" award. She also has yet to win. The 37-year-old "Mr. Robot" star also has a Primetime Emmy to his name.

Though many expected "A Star Is Born", Bradley Cooper's tear-inducing revival of one of Hollywood's most oft-remade show-business myths, to top the nominations, Cooper was surprisingly overlooked as director and the academy instead put its fullest support behind a pair of indies by global directors. To recap briefly, A Star Is Born was the year's first major frontrunner, scoring rave reviews and big box office when it hit theaters last fall.

The "A Star Is Born" actress and musician was recognized as a lead actress and for the song "Shallow", which she co-wrote with Anthony Rossomando, Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson. Interestingly, Mary J Blige is the first person to get this honour, and she did that just a year ago. Additionally, his Sony Pictures Animation film could break the Disney-Pixar winning streak that has dominated the animated feature category since 2012.

Kidman, an early Oscar favourite, was passed over for her lead turn in Destroyer as well as her supporting role in Boy Erased.

The company's Netflix Film Twitter account tweeted out the nominations this morning.
