Northam Botches 'Slavery' Comment, Suggests Others May Need To Resign

Second woman accuses Virginia's Lt Governor of sexual assault

"There's no better person to do that than a doctor", the governor said.

While speaking with "CBS This Morning" host Gayle King, the scandal-plagued Democrat was prompted to discuss his experience in dealing with his own public admission to having worn blackface in 1984.

In his first televised interview since last week's blackface scandal which ended in multiple calls for the Virginia governor's resignation, Northam seemed to be attempting to give viewers a lesson on the history of slavery in the state. A housecleaning could be costly: If all three Democrats resign, Republican state House Speaker Kirk Cox would become Virginia's governor.

Northam said the humbling week and the late-in-life conversations about race have made him determined to refocus his governorship, but it seemed plain that he is just beginning to think through what that might mean.

Northam, who has so far resisted calls to resign, stirred up controversy on CBS This Morning Sunday after he initially referred to the Africans who landed on Virginia's shores hundreds of years ago as "indentured servants".

In a telephone interview with The Washington Post Sunday night, as fellow Democrats considered launching impeachment proceedings against him, Fairfax repeated his claim that he did not sexually assault his two accusers or anyone else.

Northam at first admitted to being in the picture on February 1, but denied it a day later.

Justin Fairfax, D, also faces calls to resign after two women accused him of sexual assault.

The dean of Virginia's Democratic congressional delegation requested immediate investigations of the women's allegations against Fairfax. He said the women's allegations are serious and Fairfax should resign if they are true.

In response to the allegation, Fairfax in his Saturday statement said: "I heard from Dr. Tyson after the 2004 Convention, and she never said or otherwise indicated that our interaction was not consensual or caused her any discomfort".

Toronto Raptors reportedly acquire Marc Gasol
Later in what turned into a marathon day, they sent Greg Monroe and a 2021 second-round pick to Brooklyn for cash considerations. Marc Gasol #33 of the Memphis Grizzlies plays the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center on December 10, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.

Toronto Raptors: Trading for Marc Gasol a gamble worth taking
Four more players from that 13-man roster are also now all former Raptors: Wright, Jakob Poeltl, Lorenzo Brown and Bebe Nogueira. Conley has tallied 20.4 points and 6.4 assists per game while knocking down 36.5 percent of his 3-point attempts in 2018-19.

Barcelona won't take Lionel Messi 'risks' despite Copa del Rey squad inclusion
After drawing one each at the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg, Real Madrid went through at the Camp Nou , where they won 3-1.

Her call, however, quickly evoked a barrage of negative responses online, with people criticising both her and the Democratic Party in general.

"When you're in a state of shock like I was, we don't always think as clearly as we should", said Northam, who worked for years as a pediatric neurologist before entering politics.

King interjects: "Also known as slavery".

Consider: In just 10 days, Gov. Ralph Northam has admitted to being in the racist photo - then denied it, then admitted to wearing blackface on a separate occasion. All 140 legislative seats will be up for grabs in November and Democrats had previously been hopeful that voter antipathy toward President Donald Trump would help them cement Virginia's status as a blue state.

GOVERNOR RALPH NORTHAM: Well, again we- we have worked very hard.

A statement released by Watson's attorneys said both she and "at least two witnesses whom Ms. Watson told of the assault the day after Fairfax raped her" are prepared to testify about her allegation.

He said he had been in more hard situations in his medical career, and continued: "Right now, Virginia needs someone that can heal".

Northam has been in seclusion all week, using tunnels to shuttle between the mansion and the nearby building where he has an office.

It's unclear who the people in the picture are, but the rest of the page is filled with pictures of Northam and lists his undergraduate alma mater and other information about him.
