Chicago Police running internal probe of leaks in Jussie Smollett investigation

In a statement to Fox News on Thursday, a spokesperson for the force confirmed that "an internal investigation has been opened". Police initially investigated the case as a possible hate crime.

- Chicago Police have launched an investigation into leaks surrounding the Jussie Smollet case.

Smollett came under scrutiny over the past several weeks after he told police two men attacked him while yelling racial slurs and saying this is "MAGA country" - a reference to President Donald Trump's Make America Great Again campaign slogan.

The investigation into the alleged attack ofJussie Smollett was still ongoing. The Chicago PD says there's been a ton of "inaccurate" information surfacing in the media surrounding Smollett's case and now, they're trying to crack down on who the culprit is.

And in semi-related news, "dozens" of workers were fried from a Chicago hospital after accessing Smollett's records were leaked.

One nurse, however, said she believes the firing was a miscommunication and is appealing the termination. However, she did concede that she and many other nurses and hospital employees were fired last week due to allegations of misconduct concerning Smollett's confidential information. She said she never accessed the actor's chart, but simply scrolled past it when looking for another patient's name.

Smollett was arrested on February 21 after being charged with felony disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report in which he claimed he was the victim of a hate crime. After turning himself in, a judge set Smollett's bond for $100,000 and he was released from jail.

The Superintendent has batted away Smollett's claim that a $3,500 check for the brothers he allegedly paid to attack him was for personal training and said there was surveillance footage, physical evidence and testimony that proves it was a hoax that is yet to be presented.

The blast radius from the alleged racist and homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett continues to grow - and we don't mean the actor's future onEmpire or his next court appearance. Smollett has since been charged with staging the whole incident.
