CT Dems hope vote condemning anti-Semitism ends furor

US House Democrats Struggling over Rebuke to Lawmaker for Israel Comments

All 23 votes against the resolution came from Republican representatives, many of whom did so on grounds that the resolution did not mention Omar by name.

Omar has been the subject of verbal attacks and threats in recent weeks, including a sign posted in the West Virginia State Capitol that falsely linked her to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Radio Sputnik's Loud and Clear spoke with Ariel Gold, peace activist and co-director of Codepink, about the resolution and the movement behind Omar.

In response, the Democratic party argued over whether Omar should be singled out and what other types of bias should be decried in the text of the House resolution.

I actually went on Fox News during prime time and specifically said, "The Republican Party has chosen to embrace Donald Trump".

Ilhan Omar's remarks on the Israeli lobby's grip on American politics have seen her fellow Democrats blast her for anti-Semitism, and in one extreme case, for daring to question the US-Israel alliance at all.

"I don't think that the congresswoman perhaps appreciated the full weight of how it was heard by other people, although I don't believe it was intended in an anti-Semitic way", she explained. Gold said the pressure for a resolution against Omar came from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), "which claims to be a civil rights organization while actually being involved in spying on activists in place like Ferguson [Missouri], is directly involved in Islamophobic trainings in cities and for police forces and is behind numerous times that USA police forces are sent over to Israel to train with the Israeli military".

Victoria's Secret: Stores Closing Amid Poor Holiday Sales
LB stock was down about 0.3% during regular trading on Wednesday following a mixed quarter that saw Victoria's Secret underwhelm. Big retailers also threaten Victoria's Secret. "If they were going to pivot now, I don't think it would come off as authentic".

George Eustice quits over Brexit delay to be free to criticise Government
The former Cabinet minister expressed his support for Mr Eustice over his decision to quit the Government over Brexit . Elsewhere, MPs voted by 324 votes to 288 to reject a Scottish National Party motion to avoid "no deal".

Trump's Ex-Lawyer Cohen Testifies Again, This Time Behind Closed Doors
Among the instances they cite was Cohen's contention that he did not seek employment in the White House after Trump was elected. He also served as treasurer of the Trump Foundation, and he managed the Trump family's household expenses at times as well.

Republicans openly mocked the all-encompassing resolution, particularly after a last-minute addition of a clause condemning white supremacists continuing "to exploit bigotry and weaponize hate for political gain". Omar, a Somali refugee who resettled in Minnesota, had sparked fiery debate with her repeated criticisms of Israel and how a powerful pro-Israel lobby in Washington exerts influence on USA politicians.

I, too, was upset by Omar's remarks. "We have groups like If Not Now, and we have, again, these polls that show that American Jews are more and more disillusioned, especially young Jews, with Israel", she said.

Pelosi said the broadening of the resolution didn't weaken it in her appearance with The Economic Club.

Pocan, who is co-chair of the House's LGBT Equality Caucus, recalled leading a delegation of five members of Congress two years ago to East Jerusalem and the West Bank's Ramallah and Hebron, the latter of which was the scene of the 1929 massacre of 67 Jews.

Democrats are betting that the vote on the resolution will put the issue to bed. A few Republicans who opposed the resolution said it should have only covered anti-Semitism. We don't want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished.

I want you to know that it's ultimately up to you to take a stand against the festering anti-Semitism in your own ranks. "We need to stay vigilant".
