Huawei presents flagship smartphone in Paris during Chinese leader's visit

Huawei P30 Pro, P30, P30 Lite set to launch today: How to watch livestream, expected price, specs and more

The Huawei P30 series of smartphones has just been unveiled at its launch event in Paris, but we managed to spend some time with it a few weeks ago in Amsterdam.

We have only had a limited time with the P30 Pro so far, but Huawei has kept the same native camera app as we've seen before in the P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro. Have a look at these side by side comparisons between the 1x, 5x, 10x and 50x zooms shots that we've taken.

"The Galaxy phone can not see a Galaxy", Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu said in a jab at Samsung's Galaxy phones, while showing the audience a photo of a star cluster. For the whole pre-order period you can get yourself a £40 card with any P30 Pro deal from Carphone - just be sure to click the "View deal" button below to be eligible to claim.

The periscope zoom lens is immediately noticeable on the flagship thanks to its square shape. Underneath the display panels, Huawei has included in-display fingerprint sensors.

But, that's not all because Huawei has also equipped the 5X 8MP telephoto camera with a periscope lens design that is very similar to the one we first saw on the Oppo prototype phone.

Huawei is once again banking heavily on the camera aspect of the new phones.

In particular, the firm was keen to discuss the fact it has reconstructed the RGB model offered by the device, a fundamental system used to display colours in photos.

The master painter is celebrated for his use of light, and that is a driving force behind this camera-focused smartphone, where a Leica quad camera, an innovative alternative to the RGGB Bayer filter and some astounding zoom capabilities are among the headlines.

Black boxes show ‘clear similarities’ with Indonesia crash, Ethiopia says
However, specific new pilot training is not expected to be defined until the software fix is in place, industry sources said. At the centre of scrutiny is a new automated system in the Boeing MAX model that guides the nose lower to avoid stalling.

As for the launch, along with the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro, the company is also expected to unveil two new smartwatches, a wireless charging pad and a smart speaker at the launch event.

The OEM has insisted the device comes with improved video stabilisation and low-light performance.

The Huawei P30 has a 6.1-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080) OLED DCI-P3 HDR display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. On the front of the phone is a 32MP selfie camera. The P30 will retail for $900 while the P30 Pro will be available for $1,127.

The smaller P30 also gets a bit of a downgrade in the main camera department.

The Chinese manufacturer has set about making the P30 Pro, which operates on the company's Kirin 980 chipset, the best smartphone available for photos and video.

Additionally, the Huawei P30 packs a 3,650mAh battery, whereas the Huawei P30 Pro includes a 4,200mAh battery and has an IP68-certified build.

It comes with an impressive new 50 digital zoom. Alongside a basic Black, there is also Pearl White, Breathing Crystal (light blue), Amber Sunrise (orange) and Aurora (blue-green, based on the Northern Lights).
