"They could have made it two days later or next week", he said.

At Wednesday's hearing Cohen said Trump never explicitly told him to lie to Congress about the Moscow skyscraper negotiations.

And on at least one occasion, Trump provided an inflated valuation of his assets to an insurer, Cohen said. His only praise for Cohen was that he was impressed his former lawyer did not lie about collusion.

Trump also reiterated his repeated defense that his presidential campaign did not collude with Russian Federation.

But Trump also praised Cohen for saying he had no "direct evidence that Mr. Trump or his campaign colluded with Russian Federation".

"This should never happen to another president". He showed the committee financial statements from 2011 to 2013 that he said Trump gave to Deutsche Bank to obtain a loan to try to buy the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

Cohen testified on Wednesday, calling Trump a "conman" who knew in advance about the release of stolen emails aimed at hurting his Democratic rival in the 2016 election campaign.

"He lied a lot", Mr Trump said.

He claimed Trump "frequently told me that his son Don jnr had the worst judgment of anyone in the world". I was impressed with the fact, ' Trump said. "I am not protecting Mr. Trump anymore". He said Trump once confided to him that, despite his public explanation of a medical deferment from the Vietnam War because of bone spurs, he never had any intention of fighting there.

At the time, Donald Trump tweeted about the purchase, but said he had "just found out" about it.

"I think having a fake hearing like that and having it in the middle of this very important summit is really a awful thing".

Cohen has already pleaded guilty to lying to Congress.

Republicans zeroed in on Cohen as someone who can not be believed because he lied to Congress before and is going to prison for it.

"I am sad that Michael would turn his back on a man to whom he has repeatedly said he owes everything in the hope of a reduced prison sentence", she added.

Cohen briefly spoke to reporters after the hearing, saying he is "humbled".

House Oversight Committee chairman Eligjah Cummings said it appeared Mr Trump had committed a crime but declined to say whether he should be removed from office.

He dismissed Republican charges that the hearing was a circus and travesty, saying this was about the checks and balances between the legislative and executive branches members of Congress are constitutionally bound to uphold.

Cohen's allegation would contradict the president's assertions that he was in the dark on this issue. The resolution is now at the Senate, where Republicans barely hold the majority, and where each Senator's vote will become a test of loyalty to the president.

However, Cohen has been convicted of lying to Congress when he testified in 2017 that attempts to build a Trump skyscraper in Moscow had stopped by January 2016.
