A year after 'Starman,' SpaceX ready for second Falcon Heavy launch

SpaceX launch LIVE: How to watch historic Falcon Heavy launch live online tomorrow

This historic first launch of the most powerful rocket since the Saturn V of the 1960s will lift-off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The rocket is expected to be used primarily for US military missions such as launching spy satellites.

Falcon Heavy has already been chosen for a few contracts, including a $130 million contract to launch an Air Force satellite that was awarded just four months after its inaugural flight in February 2018.

A launch on a Falcon Heavy carries a price tag of $90 million, compared to competitor United Launch Alliance's Delta IV Heavy, which costs more than $300 million.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy launch, which has been delayed twice this week, is set for Wednesday evening in Cape Canaveral, Fla., another potential milestone for the company and the USA commercial space industry.

This time around, Falcon Heavy will be made entirely out of Block 5 hardware, including three new boosters (likely B1052, B1053, and B1055), a Block 5 upper stage with a Merlin Vacuum engine, and a recovery-optimized "Version 2" payload fairing. The vehicle, which was carrying a space-suited mannequin nicknamed Starman, was vaulted into outer space and is expected to orbit the sun for the foreseeable future.

Allison Mack pleads guilty to racketeering in Nxivm case
The freaky story of Smallville actress Allison Mack's involvement in alleged "sex cult" NXIVM took a new turn on Monday. Two other members of the group, Nancy Salzman and her daughter Lauren Salzman , also entered guilty pleas recently.

Twitter exploded after Tom Brady made an April Fools joke about retirement
But, since he's new to Twitter and just won the Super Bowl for the sixth time, we'll allow it. It was Brady's first-ever tweet as it appears he joined the social media platform last month.

The primary launch window opens at 6:35 p.m. and closes at 8:32 p.m. EDT.

Thousands of people came to SpaceX's launch site in Florida to watch the spectacle.

The Block 5 booster is the latest-generation Falcon 9, meant to be reused numerous times with minimal refurbishment. The main booster, however, missed landing on one of SpaceX's seaborne landing platforms and instead splashed into the ocean.

SpaceX issued a warning that Space Coast residents should expect several loud sonic booms as the rockets arrive back on Earth. Once again, the two side boosters will attempt a landing at Cape Canaveral. SpaceX is expected to attempt to land all three this week.

The Arabsat 6A that will depart Earth this week, on the other hand, will stick around in orbit, providing Ku-band and Ka-band communications coverage for the Middle East, North and South Africa. The triple-core rocket will hoist the 13,000-pound Arabsat-6A satellite toward a geostationary orbit 22,000 miles high.

Weather permitting, the Falcon Heavy will take off on its first commercial voyage on Wednesday, April 10. SpaceX chief operating officer Gwynne Shotwell flew to Saudi Arabia to reassure them that the Falcon Heavy would be reliable. In three key areas-national defense, science, and human exploration-the Falcon Heavy rocket has to some extent changed the discussion.
